Acrylic Painting with Shiva

1st Grade through 5th Grade

In this acrylic painting class, students will be able to experience paint on canvas while using different brush strokes to create a painting starting from a blank canvas. Each painting starts with drawing a basic idea such as a fruit, flower, bird, or landscape. A thin layer of base coat is applied to the canvas to define different color profiles. Each subsequent week, a new layer of paint is applied, working our way from background to foreground. Within 3-4 classes, a beautiful painting is completed. I will seal the painting in with spray varnish for an everlasting gloss and enhanced durability. The final result is a beautiful painting that makes parents proud of their children’s artistic capabilities.

Paintings can be taken home after varnishing is completed

Science Activities with Charlotte

Preschool through Prekindergarten

This class is designed to promote scientific thinking and discussion through students engaging in science experiments and activities. Supporting children as they develop scientific thinking during the early childhood years can lead children to easily transfer their thinking skills to other academic domains which may support their academic achievement and their sense of self-efficacy.

Meaningful science activities, which are relevant to children’s daily lives, allow children to make connections between what they already know and what they are learning. Sense-making discussions promote children’s awareness of the learning and concept development and facilitate the restructuring of alternative ideas into scientific mental models. As teachers work with children to develop their inquiry skills, the instructional strategies should move toward more open inquiry where children are posing their own questions and designing their own investigations.
